What makes Our SOAP different? quality INGREDIENT is everything!
We’re of the opinion that starting with the best quality ingredients produces a much better soap than focusing on marketing and fancy plastic heavy packaging. Rocket science I hear you say?
We don’t use fancy chemicals, we don’t use animal fats, and we don’t use unsustainable products like palm oil. What we do use is the best quality plant based ingredients we can get our hands on. We grow a lot of the ingredients ourselves where we can, and where we can’t we source locally as a first option.
Apart from our soaps with honey and bee’s wax, all our soaps would put a huge smile on the face of an average vegan.
The good oil
In case you didn’t realise, soap is actually made by reacting oil or fat with lye water - in an age old process called saponification. At the end of this process, there is no lye (sodium hydroxide) remaining in the soap. Most of the oil converts into soap, and what isn’t converted acts as a moisturizer for your skin. What oil you start with, and how much you use makes a huge impact on the properties of the resulting soap.
We tune our soap recipes to make the most of those natural oil properties, mixing and blending to get the perfect outcome.
Olive oil will make a nice hard bar of soap after a long curing process, is very mild, and in combination with other oils, makes a nice dense lather. Our Castile soaps are made from 100% extra virgin olive oil, with minimal fragrances and made for an amazingly luxurious face soap, or an ultra gentle baby soap.
Coconut oil is a super cleansing addition that produces big, copious bubbles. We wouldn’t normally make a bar with any more than 20-30% coconut oil as it is so good at its job that it can strip skin of moisture and could leave skin dry and even irritated. In a laundry or heavy cleaning soap though, that super cleansing property can be amazing! Try our magic cleaning bar, you won’t want to use anything else!!
Almond oil produces a rich conditioning lather that is high in Vitamins E, A and D as well as Oleic and Linoleic fatty acids, perfect for soothing dry, flaky and irritated skin.
Avocado oil provides a medium lather and mild cleansing properties. It is known for its moisturizing properties, and is rich in vitamin A, B, D and E.
Castor oil used in small qualities helps produce a rich, creamy lather and is a humectant which attracts moisture to your skin.
Hemp Seed Oil has been used for centuries to treat a variety of skin conditions; eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, and acne, just to mention a few. It’s high fatty acid content can help provide anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe or calm irritated skin.
